![]() let me give example of this recent behavior: start outlook go to individual contact page click on activities show "journal" journal shows all 'phone calls'. close contact reopen contact go through the same routinethis time nothing shows in journal screen. if i wait about 10 minutes the journal entries may show again. if search on "all items" it may show only email and calendar items, but not the phone calls that should show up in the 'journal' view. i have tried closing and restarting outlook. i don't recall changing any settings that should impact outlook. i did notice today that the 'standard toolbar' was open, and i don't remember opening it. i don't use it. and, no, no one else uses the computer. i have searched MS kb, and internet, and can find nothing about this behavior. i tried running 'office diagnostics'. it found no issues. i also ran repair on office from add/remove. this did not help either. does anyone have an idea about how to correct this situation? thanks, jeffrey |

I saw this and placed a watch on it to see if anyone else had
something more than the guess I can provide. It would appear not. This is definately not normal. However, there are alot of possible culprits. Form corruption, synchronization issue, OST gone awry, network connection, etc. What is your set up: Are you working on a machine at home and use Outlook for an ISP? Are you working on a mchine at work and use Outlook for an ISP? Are you working on a machine at work and use Exchange server? What O/S (Operating System) do you use? nikki, thanks for replying.
all useful details that i didn't think to include: i am working on a machine at home. i don't know what is meant by 'use outlook for an isp". i don't browse internet through outlook. no exchange server, i am using xp pro, sp 2 i might note that when i click on activities, i can see that outlook is searching. the little magnifying glass in upper right goes around for a while. when journal finds nothing, the magnifying glass only appears for half a second (or not at all). not sure what this may mean. i have tried turning off the computer, (without using startshut down), so that perhaps outlook will have to check data files. this didn't seem to help either. sometimes i will click on a contact and it will give me the correct journal entries, and maybe do it again, next time not. or not give me journal entries on the first try. jeffrey -- jeffrey "Nikki Peterson" wrote in message ... from another thread, i got the idea to run scanpst.exe. it found errors,
but didn't solve the journal problem. jeffrey -- jeffrey "Nikki Peterson" wrote in message ... If you want to try something, try this:
Clean up the forms cache: To do so, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu, click Options. 2. Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options. 3. Click Custom Forms. 4. Click Manage Forms. 5. Click Clear Cache. 6. Close all open windows, and then restart Outlook 2003. If the above does not work, try the following. Deleting the Forms Cache File: The Frmcache.dat file is the primary file to delete. The Frmcache.dat file serves as an index of the individual forms that have been cached on the computer. Use the following steps to manually delete the Frmcache.dat file. In addition, these steps delete all of the cached forms on your computer, which are stored in subfolders of the Forms folder. 1.. Quit Outlook. 2.. Search the Hard drive (F3) to locate the Frmcache.dat file. (Be sure to check in HIDDEN files on W2K or WXP.) 3.. Delete all that are found from the FIND window. 4.. Open Outlook. When you restart Outlook, and use a form, the forms cache is re-created. Please let me know if this solution works for you, or if it does not. This is a starting point for trouble-shooting this issue. nikki, thanks. good to have something to try as possible solution.
clearing cache from outlook didn't change the errant behavior. as usual, i might open a contact and journal view worked fine, but when reopening the contact the journal view is empty, then the next contact nothing shows in journal view. perhaps switching to 'all items' and then back to journal will get results, sometimes not. deleting the frmcache.dat file (i found only one), seems to have produced more consistancy. now opening a contact shows nothing in journal view, but switching to 'all items' gets me a list of all items (previously it did not always do this, maybe only emails, or calendar items), and then switching to journal gets all the journal items. i tried several contacts and they all work the same. and reopening a contact does the same. but wait, i just tried it again, and the old behavior is back (i have not closed outlook since writing the sentence above), nothing showing in journal view, 'all items' only showing email, and then, still, nothing showing in journal view. erratic. darn. i hope, somehow, that this helps. jeffrey -- jeffrey "Nikki Peterson" wrote in message ... Hi, Jeffrey, I just searched for answers in Outlook General and noted a query
about a similar issue with no resolution. Please see my note below. Would love to hear if you find answers. Thanks much, Melanie "Has anyone figured this out? I use office 2003 and I have vista 64x. I have a number indicating 4496 journal entries, but I can't SEE them. That is the first journal file. I have another file listed as "Journal in Personal Folders" with no items in it. I've used this feature for years to track my work, but it's not showing up in VISTA. Any microsoft gurus able to address this? would really, really appreciate it. I've been watching here and no one has responded. mohinha, yes, it appears that this is far from an isolated incident. since,
at least for me, it is inconsistent, i am guessing that other people have just accepted it as an Outlook inadequacy/defect, like many other defects, and have lost hope in Microsoft addressing it. (how often do they ever address popular problems?) The advantage that Microsoft has is that there isn't, so far, a real competitor. when there is, it will be bye bye Outlook. -- jeffrey "Modinha" wrote in message ...
