I want to copy hyperlinks in my email so I can paste them into the browser
URL line. When I try to do so, a grey box appears below the link that shows the URL that will be opened, and the browser opens up to that address. My understanding is that it is dangerous to open links in email messages. Why can't I just copy the link?? I suspect it may be some kind of security setting. I am using Norton Internet Security System-- latest version. I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you. |

I can't right click on the grey box. It disappears when I do so. When I
right click the hyperlink, 'copy' is greyed out, and the only options a select all and view source-- the latter just brings up a formatting of the message in the e-mail. Today, when I wanted to click on a link in my e-mail that would direct me to responses to my question, the grey box began with 'blocked', and the link led to an empy page. Can someone please help me? What is going on here? By the way, I am using Office 2003. "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: How are you doing it? blocked is added to suspected phishing urls. what folder is the message in?
Is every message affected or just some? If you select the URL and click Ctrl+C, does it copy? BTW - the grey box is not clickable or usable in any manner - its just to show you the path the link points to, in case its different than the one that is in the message. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. ![]() Diane, Only some hyperlinks come up with a blocked grey box. Surprisingly, one that came up blocked was the e-mail from microsoft discussion groups telling me that there was a response to my message. It seems unlikely to me that this would be identified as a likely phishing url. The messages are in the inbox folder. I am a member of the L.A. Computer Society. One of the members told me how to copy the hyperlinks-- in essence, I copy them by selecting after the last letter in the hyperlink, highlighting the link from right to left-- when I do that, the copy option appears when I right click. I was able to copy a link in your message using Control + C-- so now I have a couple of ways to do so. Thanks so much for your help. I was mystified by the grey boxes, and afraid that I was compromising my security by relying on them before clicking.
