I recently set up Outlook 2007, which included importing e-mail messages from
Windows Mail. When I start up Outlook, it creates a folder titled Mail on my desktop with nothing in it. While this doesn't appear to have any use, it is annoying to have this appear again the next time I start Outlook even after deleting it previously. I am not sure if it is related to my importing mail from Windows Mail, because I believe I designated a folder on my desktop (possibly titled "Mail") for my Windows Mail messages in order to import correctly. But then I deleted it (and most of Windows Mail). However, this may be unrelated. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Do you have a Dell laptop with MediaDirect? If so, it’s the
outlooksetupaddin doing it, not windows mail. See http://www.slipstick.com/problems/recurringmeetings.htm for the other problems that addin is responsible for. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Thanks, but I do not have a Dell laptop (I have an Asus laptop) or
MediaDirect. Any other suggestions? "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: Do you have a Dell laptop with MediaDirect? If so, it’s the outlooksetupaddin doing it, not windows mail. ... I recently set up Outlook 2007, which included importing e-mail messages from Windows Mail. The proper way is to export from Windows Mail to Outlook in order to preserve the message attributes. For example, the Received date is likely to be reset to the date/time of import if you import using Outlook. When I start up Outlook, it creates a folder titled Mail on my desktop with nothing in it. While this doesn't appear to have any use, it is annoying to have this appear again the next time I start Outlook even after deleting it previously. Since you don't have a Dell, my suspect would be your antivirus program. If you have your AV program configured to scan mail, try uninstall it and reinstall without the mail scanning feature. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

My e-mail messages that I imported appear fine. I also turned off incoming
and outcoming e-mail scanning in my Norton AntiVirus, but the Mail folder is still created on my desktop. Any other suggestions? Thanks. Any other suggestions? It may not be enough to turn the scanning off. You should completely uninstall the AV program, reboot, and reinstall the AV program with no mail scanning feature. Also examine what add-ins you have. Try starting Outlook once in safe mode and see if that affects the behavior. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
