Default Outlook won't receive mail.

Hi All,

I've been messing around with Outlook 2007 & now can't receive any e-mails.

I'm running Vista Ultimate & have Bit Defender as an Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware
program.

I also had to reinstall Bit Defender as well, as it suddenly crashed on me
around the same time.

That works fine now (but I'm wondering if i've somehow block the incoming
POP mail).

I've tried adding another POP account to Outlook & that doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave.

What happens when you use the Test Account Settings? What error message do
you get?

And just what happens in Outlook 2007 that leads you to believe that it
is not receiving new mails from your server-side mailbox?

I Tested the Account Settings & got the following errors:

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook cannot connect to your
incoming (POP3) e-mail server. .... contact server administrator or ISP.

Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP)
e-mail server. .... contact server administrator or ISP.

Something is blocking Outlook from reaching the mail hosts. Could be
you need to define an application rule in your firewall to let the
application connect out to the mail hosts. You didn't mention if you
use a software firewall or which one you use. Could be the e-mail
scanning by your antivirus software which is redundant and not required.
Try disabling the e-mail scanning in your antivirus program; however,
disabling in some antivirus programs is not sufficient and you have to
uninstall it to then do a custom install where you do NOT elect to
include their e-mail scanner function.

Could be the IP names for the mail hosts is not valid. Did you verify
the mail host names you specified in the e-mail accounts defined within
Outlook are valid? If you enabled SSL, different port numbers must be
used. Typically 110 for POP (inbound mail) and 25 for SMTP (outbound
mail) are used for non-SSL connects. Some ISPs are changing to port 587
for non-SSL SMTP. If you enable SSL, 995 is usually used for POP and
465 for SMTP. Call your ISP or whomever is your e-mail provider or read
their web help pages to find out if your e-mail settings match up with
what they say to use.

So just what did you do when you were messing around with OL2007?

Default Bitdefender Firewall is the culprit...

If have found that if I switch to Windows firewall in lieu of BitDefender's, then Outlook has no trouble sending or recieving Pop mail.

BitDefender did not interfere with my Hotmail acct, only my Verizon.net acct.

I have been unable to create a rule in BitDefender that will allow me to recieve incoming POP mail.

Reckon I'd better contact BitDefender on this issue, as I pay good money for their product and generally speaking, I like it and wish to get the full benefit of the services it provides.
