Default animated gif as signature

Hi group

I've uploaded a animated gif to my webserver - and in Outlook 2007 I've
created a signature and want to put the reference to the image on the
webserver - so every recipient has to get the image from my webserver (and
yes I know they have to allow this)

So in the 'insert picture' under signature creation, I choose the
http://mywebpageadress/image.gif and the image are insertet - but not
animated...- if I send a test to my gmail account the image are displayed
nicely and does the animation - but if I send it to my self on the account I
have in Outlook it just display the image - but it does not do the
animation - what's wrong...

thx for any feedback !

Did you read the answer that was posted to you above by Christian. That means that even if you send it will not display on the other end. Outlook 2007 does not support it anymore

More to the point on what Peter had to say, Outlook 2007 uses a stub of Word
for its message editor and Word does not support animated .gifs.

Actually the GIF ought to at least displayed as a normal image (without
animation). See if purging the "Outlook Secure Temp Folder" does help.
To purge that folder I would suggest using [1].

[1] http://www.howto-outlook.com/product...empcleaner.htm

BTW: To display the animated GIF within Outlook you might use following
workaround:

1. Open the message by doubleclick
2. Go to "Other actions" and choose "View in Browser"

Now the image will be displayed with your standard browser and not with
Word anymore (or the stub of Word called wwlib.dll, that is used if Word
isn't installed)

Because I am using a german version of Outlook, I don't know the correct
names of the options mentioned above; but I think you'll find them
anyway ;-) ).

I'm sorry... I just need to vent a little.

I've been a programmer for more than 35 years. One of my 'degree'
requirements was to actually write a compiler and an operating system.
Rudimentary they may have been, but they worked! Since then I've programmed
in more than 17 languages (LOST COUNT!!!) productively and profitabley. And
NO WHERE did I ever write a newer or updated program that went BACKWARDS in
its capabilities.

We have, today, virtually unlimited computing power and space. And yet the
programs that we are getting from everywhere, it seems, are bigger, sloppier,
and more poorly written than my first attempt at SPSII. Does no one believe
in 'elegant code' any more other than the folks that write for Psion or Palm
or that kind of system?

And now we have to go BACKWARDS?????

WHAT GIVES!?!?!?!

Thank you... I feel better now... even though I know that no more than a
dozen folks will ever see this post.

No need to reply.... I was just venting.... That's what happens when you
have a broken ankle and cannot get off the couch for a week!!

To be fair, word (the app that provides the reader and doesn't support
ani-gifs) has a lot more code than any palm or psion apps ever will.

My degree is in Computer Science and I've been programming for a while as
well. It's the very fact that computers are so powerful and storage so
cheap that makes programmers sloppy. I think you're correct that code
makers aren't interested in "elegant" or even "correct", given how many
security patches get issued.
