Default accessing my outlook email from home

Hi I am a new user and I am trying to figure out a way to access my emails
from my home computer. I was told there would be a number I take from my work
email, then type that number into my outlook at home and that should work. Is
this correct?

Only your IT folks would know if they configured a means of accessing
their mail host from outside their network. Contact them and follow
their instructions.

How can WE tell what's correct for your office? Ask the people who told you
it can be done.
