I have a user who is on Exchange 2003 using OL2003.
User uses "read receipt" functionality for most emails they send out. However a month after purging all her read receipts in a housekeeping exercise. They found their read receipts seem to reappear in their Inbox as Unread. Addressed from themselves and To themselves. Are there issues which can cause purged receipts to reappear? |

So you have a user whose mail was purged and a month later messages she sent
that had read receipts requested generated new read receipts? Were they for messages read or messages deleted without reading? Is she using cached exchange? Did you verify they were removed from the server? Was their any type of database restore run on the server? -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. In answer to your questions
- They were messages deleted without reading (these were going back to August 2007) - No user does not have cached exchange - Yes items were purged from the server (this happened at a month ago so a colleague made sure they were removed from exchange when dealt with the issue) - No database restores were running at the time Hope this helps "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: So you have a user whose mail was purged and a month later messages she sent that had read receipts requested generated new read receipts? Did the user in question generate the RR or are they coming from people she
sent messages to? When they are regenerated by a user and are deleted unread even though the message was read, it usually means an unread copy in the mailbox on the server and outlook can't see it. We know of an issue with IMAP (and it may be specific to GMail) where you can delete mail and generate deleted unread receipts even though outlook is set to never respond to receipts but I'm not aware of any problems with exchange, especially in non-chased mode. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com.
