Hello everybody!
I'm experiencing a problem to retrieve email from Gmail on Microsoft Outlook 2002. I set everything the way Gmail recomends it... turning on the SSL authentication for both SMTP and POP3 servers.. using ports 995 and 465 (respectively)... activating the SMTP verification for outgoing mail and when I push on the "Test Account Settings" everything is alright: it finds the outgoing mail server, the incoming mail server, it logs onto the incoming mail server BUT (huge big) it's unable to send a test message e-mail... How is that possible ??? It sends the following error message: "Send test e-mail message: Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-mail Address field" When check the E-mail address specified in the account settings window everything is alright...spelling, case, everything is there... but it keeps saying that it cannot send that test message... I've already tried deleting the E-mail address and recreating the whole stuff -in case it would be a problem of corrupted configuration... It doesn't change anything.. Could it be linked to the fact that my gmail email address contains a dot ? Does it come from gmail ? Heeelp!!! Thanks in advance, FRSNK |

For sure I can say that it is not the dot thing in your address. Our
entire domain has people with dots in their email addresses and Outlook doesnt have any issues with them. |

Thanks for your answer...
I actually connect to the internet with a modem/router that also handles my VoIP phone... I also thought that the problem could be due to my router/modem; then I opened the ports necesssary to retrieve the mail 465 and 995... (both UDP and TCP)... it doesn't seem to arrange the thing... I even tried to set gmail in another computer and it does the exact same thing... it recognises all gmail servers, it logs onto them but it's unable to send messages... ![]() I'll try with Outlook Express and will let you know... I found the answer to our problems...!!!!!
I researched in the Microsoft knowledge base ( I should have done it before).. I used the last error server code I was getting: 0x80042100B and they recommend to install Microsoft Office Service Pack 3... The problem comes from the fact that some SMTP servers utilise a SSL/SPA authentication method that Microsoft Outlook 2002 does not support... So.. just go he http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...bfd-6f69-4289- 8bd1-eb966bcdfb5e&DisplayLang=en ; download the file that you'll need... (it'll depend on you having the original installation CD or not) and then install the update... restart the computer and then try again... It'll fix the problem... It did to me!!! ![]() Regards, FRSNK "ss" a écrit dans le message de news: ... I am also having same problem(gmail/outlook 2002). But I checked with OE with same settings that works ! Any remedies ? Alternatively, you do NOT need to use Gmail for sending mails just because you want to use Gmail to receive them. You can configure the e-mail account to receive from the Gmail POP3 server and configure that account to send using your own ISP's SMTP server. That way, you can eliminate the spam signature that Gmail appends onto your outgoing e-mails which make them look amateurish. -- __________________________________________________ Post replies to the newsgroup. How is that possible ??? It sends the following error message: Stop using the test function in Outlook. Instead just send yourself an e-mail and then try to receive it. You did enable the POP option in your Gmail account, right? "Send test e-mail message: Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-mail Address field" Again, STOP trying to use the test function in Outlook. Just send yourself a message to your own account. For the username field (for logging on), I believe you must specify the complete e-mail address, as in . No quotes, no spaces. The error message you describe means that Outlook won't even bother to establish a connection because the syntax for the E-mail field is wrong, so check it again. The E-mail field is what get put into the From header in your outbound message. Make sure you don't have it quoted or with leading or trailing spaces. Try wiping it and reentering it carefully. -- __________________________________________________ Post replies to the newsgroup. Share with others.
