In outlook 2007 I use an hotmail account without connect.
My hotmail account is an old one and outlook supports it with no problems.

However, although I did the settings for, I do not hear a sound or don't see
any email icon when a new message arrives.

Why not?

Because new message notification is not supported for HTTP accounts.

Cant believe it. I mean one of the basic needs, and you use outlook, a ms
product, and hotmail, a ms product, and you still don't get a simple easy
email notification in 2009.

Well ladies and gentlemen would you please welcome MS.

HTTP protocol is an obsolete protocol so it won't be changed. If you want
notification you need to use POP3 or the connector.
