Afternoon, i have a user that has pointed out something that does not work for them but for everyone else it does and i have never really paid much attention to it.
When the user enters a name in the to field and clicks send it resolves the name from the address list and sends the email. The next time the user goes to type the name again it lists the addresses that are similar that have been typed in. which is what you expect but when the user closes outlook down and then opens it again and goes to compose an email to a user he has sent an email before it does not give you the drop down list to select the name. I have tried this on my pc and others and the result is the same i type a name in of someone i have never emailed before, resolve it using the check name and then close the email then open a new email and start typin the name again and it remembers and appears. I have checked a few forums and the best i got was Tools Options E-Mail Options Advanced Email Options Enable Tick box Suggest names while composing To. This was already enabled, anyone know anything else about this setting where the list is remembered from if its a file on the PC or a registry setting or if its something silmpliar than that? I could re-create the users exchange profile to see if that fixes it but i'd rather do that as a last resort if i can't find out about the files or registry settings? Thanks in advance for reading ![]() |

Best guess, the client is typing the name, hitting send, and it never
hits the cache cuz they haven't resolved it to anything. For frequently used names, you can set a nickname that Outlook will automatically resolve to the full address. Here's how to set up a nickname: - Start a new message. - Type the text you want to use for the nickname into the To box. - Fill in the subject and start typing a message. - When you see the name in the To box underlined with a red squiggle, right-click on the name. You'll see a choice of matching names from your address book. Choose the one you want to use or click More Names to get other choices. Next time you want to send a message to that person, just type in the text from Step 2 again. Outlook will automatically get the address for you and will underline the full name in a dashed green line to highlight that auto-resolution did its job. My best guess is different. I suspect the Outlook profile is no longer
writing to the autocompletion cache. Autoresolution probably isn't even in play here since it isn't even invoked unless autocompletion has no matches. It usually requires creating a new profile to get autocompletion working again, then the cache will have to be repopulated. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "mdlister" wrote in message ... When the cache doesn't save on close it means either the profile is corrupt
or outlook is not closing completely. Good news!!
as we have recently upgraded to 2007 from 2000 i had a look at my settings and i have 2 copies of all the files as i have 2 outlook profiles, both sets of files are named the same as the profile. After checking the users PC they had one set of files named the same as the exchange profile however the nickname file was not .nk2 but .Nick i assumed that this was not upgraded during the install and deleted the file, the user then started an email typed in a name and resolved it, closed the email and nothing happened. However when outlook was closed it created a new file with the .nk2 extention. so thats fantastic the problem has been resolved! Is there a tool to migrate users outlook profiles including these settings? Other users have complained that there outlook shortcuts are missing so i guess these are the same issue possible and have not migrated across, tho i have had a quick look and the user has a .fav file which accordding to http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm this is where the outlook shortcuts are saved and i do not have one instead i have a outlook profile.xml with the lines below so i guess that this is the new format for them? linkgroup name="Shortcuts" clsid="C001DE6548CC90439DA43C6F8FA0487B" wdLnk ltypeshortcut/ltype storeid2/storeid urlhint / icondata / reckey000000001A447390AA6611CD9BC800AA002FC45A03 00A9B013D3B78834478A1E12C2B3639968000006B9B9D00000 /reckey eid000000001A447390AA6611CD9BC800AA002FC45A0300A 9B013D3B78834478A1E12C2B3639968000006B9B9D00000/eid clsid0078060000000000C000000000000046/clsid nameHMLR/name lId25FE74894B589B41B824688E937A5CE4/lId userdefname1/userdefname /wdLnk /linkgroup |
