A week ago I noticed that Outlook 2007 on an old desktop in a guest
room no longer was downloading any data from the Exchange server at work. I have tried absolutely everything I can think of but nothing seems to change this. Meanwhile, three other computers at home (we have a site-license arrangement which allows us to use Office on our home computers) with Outlook 2007 are having no problems at all with my Outlook account. Here is what I have tried so far: 1. Deleting the .ost file. Outlook acquires a few thousand kilobytes of data and then simply stops. The last entry in event viewer is an information entry which says: “The store C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator.000\Local Settings \Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost is being re-pushed to the indexer for the following reason: Index reset, re-push entire store.” 2. Completely removing my antivirus program temporarily. 3. Restoring the system partition from an image taken a few weeks ago when Outlook was working fine on this machine. 4. Purchase RegCure and “clean out” the registry with it. 5. Installing Office SP2. Nothing I have done, not even going back to an image from a time when everything was working well in Outlook, has any effect on this behavior. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on and how to fix it—or at least how to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks in advance! |

Removing key Outlook files as per http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/slow.htm 2. removing Outlook after going back to my original image of the system partition and then reinstalling Outlook—original settings and files survive; 3. removing the whole 2007 Office suite and reinstalling—original settings and files survive; 4. using a couple of different commercial uninstallers to try to get rid of everything associated with Outlook—original settings and files survive; 5. using the same commercial and it's dollars to try to get rid of everything associated with the Office 2007 suite—original settings and files survive; So is there any hope short of reinstalling the system from scratch? |

The data files for Outlook remain on your hard drive and the settings contained in the mail profile in the registry also remain. Reinstalling Outlook will simply reuse the data and settings. So is there any hope short of reinstalling the system from scratch? Start with a new mail profile. Control Panel's Mail applet is the place for that. http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/newprofile.htm -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Thanks! I tried again but no luck—it still keeps continually “requesting data from the server” but never actually starts syncing after the first few thousand kB. Network activity in task manager shows virtually no network activity. I did find one rather interesting but apparently unrelated thing however. I checked add-ins against add-ins in my other machines where Outlook is working fine—nothing in Outlook in the machine where it won't work, however, that isn't in the other machines. I also checked the “Exchange Extensions” list and found that everything in "Add-In Manager” Had Somehow come unchecked. I rechecked them but it made no difference. How unbelievably frustrating! |
