Sorry, on the ctrl drag. I forgot it was r-click drag, not ctrl drag.
![]() After dragging to the button. instead of hitting save and close, you can use Move to folder command. Ctrl+Shift+V or File, Move to folder. Hmmm. OL2003 doesn't use an MRU list of recently used folders, so it might not be workable for you, unless the folder is in your mailbox. (2007/2010 use an MRU.) -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "StargateFan" wrote in message ... Oh, brother, double-drag??? Drag the messge one way so that I get the text and then drag the attachment into it? Well, if this reduced functionality in OL2003 means that that's the only way, then that's what I'll have to do. The buttons are not customizable - they go to the default mailbox only.
Move to folder is usually a better option, except Ol2003 doesn't have an MRU list. ![]() How did you create tasks in Outlook 2000 that you got attachments and text? How about this - open the message and use the Copy to folder command. (File,
copy to folder) - then you'll get both, just like before. Using copy to folder from the message list won't work - it makes a copy. You need to open the message - the last used folder is remembered in my quickie tests. I'm still curious as to how you did it before because I can't do it with a drag - everything I try has the same behavior in both Outlook 2000 and 2003, I can get text or attachment, not both. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote in message ... Don't know. It's always been that way for me shrug. This is the first time I didn't get that, so it stood out. I haven't used Outlook 2003 very much, I've been in contracts that although they had WinXP, they all had the old Outlook. Currently, there's a common mailbox and the way they're asking us to handle our respective tasks is to drag them into the tasks folder. But your system works great. Though I have to do the navigation carefully so that I get into the right tasks folder, and then I have to repeat the motion a second time to get the attachment in, the end goal is reached - a message with its attachment. So that's the main thing. I just have to get used to this. ![]() -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "StargateFan" wrote in message ... Really appreciate it. ![]() "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote in message ... Just drag to the buttons on the navigation pane - it will open in the right form type. If you need the message readable and the attachment, drag it so it opens the form with the text in the body,. Drag the message to the open form to add it as an attachment. Or just drag the attachment to the open form. You can drag attachments right from the reading pane to the form. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "StargateFanWrk" wrote in message ... sigh Well, at least I got _half_ of the functionality back, although with the added extra step since the Tasks are no longer accessible in the folder pane so can't slide directly but carefully have to right-click and drag to tasks icon down at bottom which opens the tasks in the navigation pane and then up to the tasks at the top (M$ = 1 step forward, 2 steps backward with version changes lol). Unlike O2K, although I get my original message with attachments, yes, he body of the message doesn't also get dumped, visible below the attached message. This means that I have to open the email each and every time I need to consult the context email sigh. Still, can't lose the attachments so have to live with the loss of the message unless I train myself to copy the contents of the email first before the click and drag business to the tasks folder sigh. Might have to do the extra work since it will be more work to open up every single email message each time we need to check something. We must keep the attachment; we don't need to access it vs. needing to see the content of the email. (Why does M$ do these types of things?? There is no gain in this loss of functionality. Unless I'm missing something [pls, pls let it be that I'm missing something g]) Thanks. I really appreciate the help. ![]() "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote in message ... In O2K, if you drag an email message into the tasks folder, it duplicates the message but also converts the original message into an attachment within the task. Can someone advise me how to get that behaviour back in OL2003, pls. Thanks. ![]() |

... (2007/2010 use an MRU.) No worries g. I'll have to check this out. Thanks. ![]() -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "StargateFan" wrote in message ... We have two tasks available, my own and the general mailbox. I have to do the double thingie business, drag down to the task button below and then choose the right tasks option. If you need the message readable and the attachment, drag it so it opens the form with the text in the body,. Drag the message to the open form to add it Yeah, but how? When I right click and drag I get 3 options, which don't work the way they should. Either I get the whole message bundled up, which includes the attachment (but no message text) or I get just the text with nothing attached. When I drag directly, I get _only_ text. No options come up at all. Control drag doesn't change that. as an attachment. Or just drag the attachment to the open form. You can drag attachments right from the reading pane to the form. Oh, brother, double-drag??? Drag the messge one way so that I get the text and then drag the attachment into it? Well, if this reduced functionality in OL2003 means that that's the only way, then that's what I'll have to do. I jsut have to really hope that the general mailbox doesn't received very many messages on any given day because that's going to get very old, very fast sigh. Thanks!! Appreciate the help. It's good to figure out a workaround, at any rate. We just have to have both, just like what automatically happened in O2K days. ![]() -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Poll: What version of Outlook do you use? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=27072 "StargateFanWrk" wrote in message ... sigh Well, at least I got _half_ of the functionality back, although with the added extra step since the Tasks are no longer accessible in the folder pane so can't slide directly but carefully have to right-click and drag to tasks icon down at bottom which opens the tasks in the navigation pane and then up to the tasks at the top (M$ = 1 step forward, 2 steps backward with version changes lol).
