I am on XP Pro SP2 with Office 2003 with all available updates. I am using
Winword as the text editor in Outlook and I also have Plaxo installed. When I close Outlook, the window closes but it does not do a complete shut down. If I check in the Task Manager, OUTLOOK.EXE and WINWORD.EXE are still running. If I shut them down, WINWORD first, I can then restart. If I shut down OUTLOOK without doing WINWORD, then OUTLOOK thinks it didn't shut down normally. I have completely uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled but the problem persists. It would appear to be a problem in the configuration of Outlook but I don't know where to look. I also tried to start Outlook from scratch. That is, open it with no PST file so it would think I am opening Outlook for the first time. My intent was to then reimport everything from the existing pst to see if reconstruction would fix it. However, I haven't figured out how to do this either. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Steven,
Perform the following procedure and your problem should be fixed. It turns out that the problem is NOT with Outlook itself but with a corrupted PROFILE. Create a new profile and you're good to go.
