Default can not view message pain (verify your credentials) message

Just ran outlook for first time and it brought in all accounts and downloaded
mail. It will not let me view the mail on the right view pain. A message
there says
"This message with restricted permission cannot be viewed in the reading
pane until you verify your credentials. Open the item to read its contents
and verify your credentials."

I can not open the message so do not know what to do now. Have tried to
find my "credentials" but do not have any so far as I know. Never used
Outlook before.

Thank you for your help.

What happens when you try to open the message?

The sender apparently has used Windows Rights Management to protect the contents of the message. You will have to install the RM client and verify your identity before you'll be able to open it. Perhaps you will want to check with the sender to see if they indeed intended to have you do that.

Thank you Sue for taking a shot at this. But I sent the messages to myself
from my online yahoo.com account. So "rights management" is not an issue I
believe?? It is undoubtiably a configuration error as I can not send mail
using outlook either. When I hit the send button the message just sits
there. The program installed wonderfully easy and correctly configured both
of my email accounts and downloaded the headers and perhaps the message but I
can not tell about that.

Nonetheless, Outlook refuses to allow the message to be viewed. Now on
another thread someone suggested that AV anti-virus real time email scanning
would cause this error. Although I do not use that program, I did disable my
Computer Associates real time email checking to see if that would help.
Rebooted and still have the problem. Would you consider taking another shot
at this my dear lady?

Regards,
LB

I would suggest some of the standard troubleshooting procedures -- starting with running Help | Detect and Repair and creating a new mail profile. Definitely leave email scanning off.
