Double check your Anti-virus or anti-spam settings. Some of the utilities
use a localhost SMTP or POP setting and 'proxy' the email for you to allow for scanning. "Menace56" wrote: I have recently carried out some office updates. Ever since I have had to re set my pop3 details in my mail settings. It resets to local host every time I start outlook. Can someone help me? |

![]() My anti virus PC-cillin is changing the POP3 settings. The consequence is that Outlook can't connect to my incoming mail server and times out. I have to reset the POP3 settings so that Outlook can download my emails. "Vincent" wrote: Double check your Anti-virus or anti-spam settings. I came to the same conclusion myself.
I would like to have PC-cillin scan my emails if possible? It would be great if MS Outlook had anti virus capablities built in. I would like to have PC-cillin scan my emails if possible? There's no need. Your AV program will still protect you, but your greatest protection is inside your skull. Just don't open attachments from within mail. It would be great if MS Outlook had anti virus capablities built in. With all the AV programs available, some free, there's no need. -- Brian Tillman |

Hello. I've had this problem for 3 months now and I finally figured out
whats going on. I use Comcast server . I'm not sure which you use but you can try these general steps: I was told to "disable" my email scan in McAfee, which I did but that didn't work. Then I was told to make sure the authentication box was checked in tools, accounts, mail tab, preferences, server tab. That didn't do anything either. I remember when "Spam Killer" had downloaded separately from McAfee that this is when all of my problems started happening with the server changing. I then decided to "uninstall" McAffee and reinstall it." Before I did that , I disabled Spam Killer as well. I also decided to check the box in accounts to "remember my password which I thought would "lock in" the correct server. Those two things worked!! Good luck. Pass this on please if it works for you too. "Menace56" wrote: I have recently carried out some office updates. Ever since I have had to re set my pop3 details in my mail settings. This is usually an anti-virus (or Anti-Spam) software issue. It changes the
POP3 server name to "localhost", "127.0.0.1", or "pop3.norton.antivirus" in order to scan the e-mail as it downloads. If this prevents you from downloading mail, then the anti-virus software is malfunctioning. Check with the anti-virus software manufacturer for update or configuration help, or disable the anti-virus software from scanning e-mail. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271951/en-us OL2000: Internet Mail Account Properties Are Changed By E-mail Protection in Norton AntiVirus 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262086/en-us OL2000: You Are Not Able to Receive Mail When You Enable the Norton Antivirus 2000 E-mail Protection Feature Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!"
