I've had the same exact problem with my transfer to a Western Digital 250gb
drive. On top of that, some icons are not the correct icons on my desktop and/or my start menu (Acrobat, ITunes, Quicktime, Outlook, etc.) When I try to start Outlook from the Quick Launch bar, it can't find my program and asks me to "Open with". I finally got a response from Western Digital about my problem and they told me to try copying the drive in DOS as opposed to Windows. I've the tried the transfer three times and this will be my fourth. Has anybody found a solution to this problem? Seems like this is a recurring problem because I see this same thing in several different groups here. Did it work when you tried it from DOS? That would have been my next strategy.
The last time around, I unhid the "protected operating system files" in addition to the hidden files. It still didn't copy everything I needed, but I copied over the missing files manually and that did the trick. Been up and running for a couple of weeks with no problems. I haven't done the DOS option yet. I just tried your solution which brought
back my missing icons but I still can't download my emails. Also, when I reboot my computer, everything I copied over for the protected Installer folder is gone. Do you find that same problem? Yes.
I had to copy those install files over from the old drive manually, open Outlook, and run detect and repair. That worked for me. "Ed Y" wrote: I haven't done the DOS option yet. Actually, I got it fixed. I had to uninstall Office and reinstall it. The
