On 7/1, Dave H asked about same problem. Milly S replied, "Control
Panel-Mail Icon- remove Exchange account". I'm using Windows XP v5.1. I went Start-Control Panel-User Accounts (no Mail Icon yet)-(pick a Control Panel icon) Mail Icon. I then got Mail Setup - Outlook w/ E-mail accounts, Data Files, and Profiles. I go to accounts to remove exchange and I get E-mail Accounts Wizard. I select E-mail-view or change and get POP/SMTP. If I go w/ Directory-view, I get Outlook Address MAPI. So apparently I'm not following the right path. |

First of all, do you get an error specifically mentioning an Exchange
Server? Second, "no folder" can indicate the lack of a Data file. What do you see when you click the "Data Files" button in 'Control Panel|Mail'? This is the message: "Cannot start MS Office Outlook. Unable to open the
Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists." And it does. And as for Control /Mail, "Outlook Data Files - Outlook" dialogue box comes up naming: Archive Folders w/ Filename, "C:\Doc and Settings..." and second line is Personal Folders w/ Filename, "C:\Doc & Set. Then there's buttons on right side of box labeled: Tell Me More..., Settings..., Open Folder..., Add..., Remove..., and Close. OK, that means you do NOT have an Exchange Server account to remove and the
error message probably has to do with the Data file either being damaged or not located where Outlook is looking for it. Under 'Control Panel|Mail|E-mail Accounts|View or Change...', what's shown in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following location" window? Under 'Control Panel|Mail|Data files', select the "Personal Folders" entry and click the "Open Folder" button; is the Personal Folders file located in this folder? Under "Deliver new e-mail..." is Personal Folders.
Then after hitting "Open Folder", there is no Personal Folders here. Just "archive Data File, extend DAT file, and Outlook Data File." "Outlook Data File" is probably the Personal Folders file. The first thing
to try is checking/repairing it with the Inbox Repair Tool.
