Default why won't outlook work with Bipond Broadband ADSL?

I did a self install on my Bigond Broadband which recommended that you use
outlook express but gave the option of outlook. I tried to configure outlook
as I preferred this option. When I tested the connection, it recognised
outlook and said that all tests were ok but my test emails would only come
through in outlook expresss. Why can't I get it to work?
