Default Outlook 2007 Cache Mode

I have been using Outlook 2007 for about 2 weeks now and I love it. However
when I am at home or just off my network with my laptop I cannot use cache
mode. I keep getting the following errors.

1) When I open Outlook it asks for my username and password, and since I am
not connected to the network it will accept it so I have to hit cancel. The
internal Domain name at our company is medtel.com which is the same as our
external. So this might be one of the issues.

2) When I hit cancel I get the following error "Cannot start Microsoft
Office Outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be
opened. The file c:\documents and settings\...\local settings\application
data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.ost cannot be accessed. You must connect to
your Microsoft Exchange Server computer at least once before you can use your
offline folder file."

HELP!!!!

Reset your cache by renaming your ost-file to .old. Connect to the office
and have it rebuild the ost-file.

I have done that more times than I can count. I have also deleted the file
out as well.
