I am trying to configure Outlook to use SPA with a POP3 account. With the
SPA option checked, outgoing mail works but incoming mail fails. Upon examining the communications transcript I find that the SMTP connection sends an "AUTH LOGIN" request, to which the server replies with a challenge. The POP3 connection, on the other hand, simply sends an "AUTH" request, to which the server replies "-ERR authentication exchange failed". When I connect via telnet to the POP3 server and issue an "AUTH LOGIN", I am prompted with a challenge. How can I get Outlook to issue an "AUTH LOGIN" rather than a simple "AUTH" when it connects to the POP3 server? |
