Default Outlook user name not accepted by server - but not changed

Mail server (BT in UK) tells me everything OK their end and I have software
problem.

No changes made to my email settings but I cannot collect or send emails via
Outlook. I've re-checked settings - everything correct but still user name /
password being rejected by mail server.

Any ideas
