I have learned how. In Format, there are two parts that are essential. You
must select "Plaint Text"; and for Encoding it appears you must select
Cyrillic (KOI8-R). Also, of course, you must have a Russian "keyboard"
installed for Windows. I find that IF I begin a New Message, then
immediately check to be sure I have Plain Text selected, AND I immediately
select Encoding set for Cyrillic, the Cyrillic text is preserved.
