Just installed Windows XP, Genuine Kit edition on my work computer. Having
to reinstall everything now. Reinstalled Office 2003 Professional Edition. Can't seem to get Outlook to work. I've done the repair/reinstall and it says everything is installed properly. When you go to open Outlook, you get the Prepare to Install screen, and then it just goes away. I can't use the calendar or send email. Also, when I clicked on set up email account, the computer does nothing. The other 2003 Office Applications seem to be okay. Please help!! |

I actually have the same problem with a re-install of Outlook 2003 on a box
that crashed. Am sure it is the registry settings - I've managed to copy the pst file into the user profile but it won't let me add email accounts, the error message I get is "failed due to a registry or installation problem .. restart and try again, or reinstall" I've already reinstalled, I've run detect and repair as well as reinstalled it to no avail. What I didn't want to do was re format the hard drive because there are so many user files on it ..... but am tempted to put in a new hard drive just for programmes and the operating system in order to protect the data from the operating system collapsing - the user on this box does a lot of video editing and I guess the loss of most of his kernel files happened when he filled up the hard drive. Any clues what the registry settings should be? I have tried running command line switches but they don't work either - don't allow me to import data from a clean pst file for example. -- SBS 2003 rocks, it's me that's rushing to catch up "Brian Tillman" wrote: Mary Ellen Mary wrote: Just installed Windows XP, Genuine Kit edition on my work computer. State exactly what you've tried so far. -- Brian Tillman |

Well, I tried the obvious which was firstly detect and repair, then uninstall
and reinstall and got exactly the same response. The solution was to open outlook from "run" and use the command line switch /cleanprofile which also resets the registry settings. Then confirmed the use of the stock outlook profile and it worked a dream. Just a shame that this solution had to come from a non Microsoft website. For background, this box had been running for a couple of years with no problem, but I suspect the user had filled the hard drive leaving no room for the operating system to function so it got corrupted. I've no idea what the user had done in between the box crashing and me getting to it, so can't say what he had already tried. I could have reformatted the hard drive and rebuilt it from scratch but didn't want to lose the large amounts of user data on the disc, so I reinstalled the operating system over the top of the old one. Works better now except it tends to take a while to get from the windows wallpaper to actually putting icons and the taskbar on the screen when starting up. Thanks -- SBS 2003 rocks, it's me that's rushing to catch up "Brian Tillman" wrote: Bernard Forbes wrote: I actually have the same problem with a re-install of Outlook 2003 on a box that crashed.
