Hello. I am installing a new Microsoft Server 2003 system. I am a little
confused...am I supposed to install Outlook 2003 on the Server also? I see that Outlook Express is installed on the server, but I want to use Outlook not OE. Do I need to go back to the original Server 2003 install disks? If I install Outlook from the stand-along outlook 2003 CD, I get the MAPI warning. |

Why would you want to install Outlook on your server? Usually people don't use their server to run desktop applications.

Thanks. No, I don't want nor need to run Outlook on my server. But I want it to handle all mail-server related function. I believe this is Exchange Server. How do I know if everything I need for exchange serveri is installed on my server? I see that Outlook Express was installed on the server (probably when I installed Server 2003). Not sure why it is there either. My workstations have MS Outlook....waiting for the server... THanks much for your help, Sue! Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer, so it installs automatically with all versions of Windows.
Unless you purchased and installed Small Business Server 2003 on your server, you would need to buy and install Exchange Server separately. Outlook includes the ability to connect as a client to Exchange Server (as well as POP and IMAP servers, including the POP3 server built into WIndows 2003 Server -- see http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...Service.html); it does not include any server software.
