Outlook 2003 with Exchange server 2003 permits me to send mail from
unauthorised user id, as it does not require an authentication before using smtp. The way currently around this issue seems to be restricting Ip addresses from which mail is sent. Is there a way to mandate smtp authentication by logging into an account before sending mail on exchange. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. How is this a suggestion or a question about Outlook?

I realise the question wasn't clear. Well let me try again.
I use exchange protocol on Outlook2003. Is there some way in which I can prevent imposters within my organisational LAN from sending mail to others, as if it were from me? In POP3 protocol we have the option of requiring the user to authenticate the account before using SMTP. Is a similar mechanism available to ensure authentication before sending mail on my id "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: How is this a suggestion or a question about Outlook? --Â Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. I would ask this in an Exchange group as it would be a server-side operation, not client side.
