My Outlook Program won't open the Personal Folder that contains all my e-mail
information. For some reason I have several personal folders listed and the one that Outlook opens is a generic one. I am operating with Windows XP Professional and Outlook 2002 which is part of my Office package. It was operating correctly earlier today but not now. In location C:\ Documents & Settings \ Ray19 \ Local Settings \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Outlook \ here I have the following folder Microsoft(1) and the following files -- extend.dat, Outlook1.pst, Outlook2.pst, Outlook.bak, Outlook.log and Personal Folder(1).pst. : Microsoft (1) folder contains a folder Outlook(1) and the file Outlook1.pst : Outlook(1) folder contains the file Outlook1.pst and this file contains all my Outlook e-mail files I believe. Can anyone help me straighten this mess out? Oh, and compounding my confusion is that in location C:\ Program Files \ Microsoft Office \ Office 10 \ 1033 are some more Outlook files and the file OUTLOOK.exe is under the Office 10 location? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to lose my e-mail files and their history/ Thanks, in advance for any help provided. Ray 19 |

I apologize Russ . I didn't realize that the Technet and Outlook Boards were
considered one. It won't happen again? Although, I did receive a response to my technet posting (Windows XP) about Outlook not being restored to a previous state with Windows XP restore capability. The replying person suggested I post my inquiry on the Outlook board which I guess would be a multipost -- Right? Anyhow, I'll ask this question as part of the existing thread I have in my original post. Thanks for your correction. As you might suspect, I'm not a frequent user of these boards. However, when you're in trouble they are invaluable -- Ray19 "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Do not multipost. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Ray19" wrote in message news ![]() My Outlook Program won't open the Personal Folder that contains all my information. Ray 19 here is a long shot suggestion, got to each .pst file and grant yourself full control of the file. Somehow, maybe with your restore or maybe you upgrade outlook you may have created additional profiles. One sure way to access the .pst is to make sure you have permission. right clicking and selecting properties then security should give you the option of granting yourself full control. YOu might have to log on as the administrator if you current default profile (the one you use to log on) does not have administrator privileges. Once you give yourself the permission you should be able to open all the "personal files" look for the mailbox or personal file that has your name on it. drag all files and folders to that group of files. Then open outlook. go to tools, email accounts (view or change) click on the view or change option when it is open look to see how many profiles you have. If you have more than one, then that is why you are having this problem. make sure the default profile is actually the one that holds your mail. Sorry if I rambled but I have seen and solved problems similar to yours. Good Luck |
