I posted on here with "how to change outgoing email address appearance"
because I looked through all of the threads relating to this, but I either don't find an answer to my question or just don't understand the answers. I would really appreciate if one of you smart people out there could help me. Here's a copy of the original question. (Please let me know if it's not clear enought. Thanks.) I had an older version of Outlook and now am using Outlook 2003 (11.8010.8107) SP2. I used to be able to send email out through my POP yahoo.co.uk email address, but the person receiving the email would see my email as coming from a different email account ). I need to be able to do this so I can switch yahoo email accounts when the account becomes swamped with spam. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm desperate!!! |

Sounds like you had two POP3 accounts defined in your earlier version of
Microsoft Outlook so you could pick and choose which account to send from. This is still supported today in Outlook 2003. To add another POP3 account definition, pick Tools Email accounts Add new Account. "Brad" wrote in message ... Nope, actually, the @alumni.insead.edu is kind of a ghost address. It's from
my grad school. We can assign that address so that any email sent to @alumni.insead.edu will be sent to my yahoo.co.uk address. With the older Outlook, I was able to send out emails through my yahoo.co.uk POP address, but the recipient would only see that it was being sent from @alumni.insead.edu. That's what I want to do with the OL03, but can't quite figure it out. Hope this makes some sort of sense. Thanks for helping!! Again, create a new POP3 account with the @alumni.insead.edu account and
assign the POP3 mail server as localhost and the smtp server as that of your yahoo account. Once that is done, go into the send receive settings and remove the alumni address from the existing send/receive settings. You can create a new send/receive group that includes the alumni account for send only. "Brad" wrote in message ... Nope, actually, the @alumni.insead.edu is kind of a ghost address. Sorry to be a pain. I'm not quite sure how to go about what you said. I did
go to create a new POP3 account. I entered my name under name, the alumni address under email address, then put localhost under POP3 server, and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk under the smtp server. Then I his next and Finish. After that, I'm not sure what you're talking about under the send/receive settings. If you could be so kind, would you mind sending me step-by-step directions? I'm really not that great with Outlook (I'm sure you can tell). I would really appreciate it!! From main Outlook window, press CTRL + ALT + S to bring up the send/receive
group settings. You should only have 1 defined. Highlight and select edit. In the account pane on left, pick your alumni account and uncheck the box to collect mail for it. No need to create a new send/receive group as the above should work for you. "Brad" wrote in message ... Sorry to be a pain. I'm not quite sure how to go about what you said. Thanks for being so patient with me. I did just as you said and it didn't
work. I'm assuming that when you said "pick your alumni account" you mean the one that is coming up as "localhost" (if not, see my previous thread to see how I set up the new POP3 account). I even tried to uncheck "send mail items" on the other one and that didn't work. I'm really sorry again for asking for your help....think of it as a challenge in teaching the not-so-outlook-adept. ;-) "neo [mvp outlook]" wrote: From main Outlook window, press CTRL + ALT + S to bring up the send/receive group settings. Update. I also just unchecked "include the selected account (localhost) in
this group and created a new group only including selected account (localhost) and only having send mail items checked. This didn't work either. Not working is too vague for me to figure out what to try next after
creating/modifying the send/receive groups. For example, you tried sending a message from the alumni account and it just sits in the outbox. The message was actually sent, but Yahoo mail server threw back an error. "Brad" wrote in message ... Update.
