OK... I have been all over the Vista beta NGs and the Win. Mail NG and nobody
has an answer so far. Maybe here does, or MS... where are you? I (and thousands of others) have grandfathered MSN pop3 email ). It is NOT HTTP email. We use pop3.email.msn.com and secure.smtp.email.msn.com. For some (stupid) reason Windows Mail (OE replacement) does not support POP3 for MSN (or Hotmail) and won't even let you set up an acct with those domains. HOWEVER, Outlook 2003 errors all the time using the same POP and SMTP settings that work flawlessly on XP with Outlook (any version). It errors and says you need SSL, (you don't), and then when you set SSL it says it can't recognize your email ID. Does anyboby know what is going on, and WHY is MS ingnoring all these screams for help? Could some MVP please escalate this vis your own channels -- Please?! There is no reason that Outlook 2003 should stop working with an upgrade to Vista -- esp. with MS NOT telling you. I have a copy of Vista Ultimate waiting for the trash if this does not get addressed. Thanks very much. |

OK... via some contacts, I have finally determined the following...
It's PO'ing a lot of people. It's known "bug" and not being fixed -- so far. I suggest people scream to get it addressed. Can you MVPs imagine what is going to happen here in this NG when Joe Consumer with PAID or (grandfathered) Hotmail/MSN access finds that IE7 update to XP, or Vista install come January for consumers, kills their POP3 email -- and does not tell them?! If you add IE7 to an XP setup, you lose Outlook access to MSN/Hotmail POP3 accounts -- period. If you uninstall IE7, you can once again access the account. So it appears to be a change introduced by IE7 interacting with the authentication for the POP3 MSN/Hotmail accounts that causes the problem. I have no problem with my other POP3 accounts, only my MSN access is broken. The only way around it right now appears to be to use Hotmail Popper from http://www.boolean.ca. This is going to cause some waves... be prepared........................ |

I stand corrected... apparently the IE7/XP and MSN/Hotmail POP3 issue has
been fixed. Sympatico email is also POP3 Hotmail server-beased and is also failing, like MSN POP3 with Vista. Still no answers forthcoming, though. |

Hey Dallas
Been having the exact same issue since day one of my upgrade from XP. Interestingly, OE, handles POP3 without a problem so what is happening with Outlook. People at MS seem to think that once they sell a product, its up to you to fix any problems.
