I had to reload XP and Office. In Outlook when I try to set up the e-mail
account in ‘options’ I receive the message “The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall”. I restarted Outlook a number of times, ran XP in the repair mode and reinstalled XP. Ran virus scan, cleaned removed some items. None of this changes, so I have no e-mail access. -- Dave |

Try setting it up in the Mail applet in Control Panel, starting with a clean mail profile. -- Brian Tillman |

I, too, am receiving the *registry or installaion problem* message, and I took your advice and went into Control Panel/Mail and get no response from the *Email Accounts* or *Data Files* buttons. When I click on the *Show Profiles* button and go to *Add* it allows to me add a name for another profile, but will not allow me to set up the email account for that profile. As it turns out, I've been reading an very, very large number of "Preparing to install..." message problems with Office 2003 on the MS Online Discussion Groups, and yet I have still not located a solution to my problem. It may be a registry error, but I can't figure out how to figure it out, nor can I do much troubleshooting on my own without significant guidance from an expert. Oh well.... |
