Default Cannot copy .pst file -- error is "another process locked file"

I cannot migrate my Outlook data (.pst files) from my old computer to my new
one. When I attempt to copy a .pst file on the old computer, I get error
message "Cannot copy Outlook.pst; the process cannot access file because
another process has locked a portion of the file". How do I determine what
process is locking the file and how to unlock it?

Did you exit Outlook completely? If so, see if Outlook is still running in
Task Manager.
State what add-ins you have installed and the last action you took when you
exited Outlook.

Russ,

Thanks for your suggestion. I determined that Palm One software was locking
the file. By turning off the Palm One software, I was able to copy the
Outlook.pst file.

That's #1 on the Hit Parade of why Outlook won't close:
1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.
