Default Outlook 2003 causing computer to crash

Whenever I shut down Outlook 2003 my hardrive light kicks on solid, my mouse
freezes up and I have to either reset my comp or hold in the power button for
5 to 10 seconds to shut it down. It only happens when I shut down the
program. Otherwise everything works fine. I have been just leaving the
program running all the time but I would like to resolve this issue.
Thanks
