Default Outlook 2007: AutoText, QuickParts - Which to use?

Having recently migrated from Outlook 2003, I was disappointed that all of my
old AutoText entries disappeared. I used to be able to use the same
selections in both Outlook and Word, but now it appears that I have to
re-create them separately in each program. Is there any way to create a
single gallery for use in each program? Also, what's the difference between
AutoText and QuickParts? Does one hold any advantage over the other?

Thanks for your time and input!

You can't share between the two programs dynamically, but if you want to use
your old AutoText entries in Outlook and they are already appearing in Word,
you can do the following while Word and Outlook are closed:

1) Locate your Normal.dotm and NormalEmail.dotm templates (they are usually
found in C:\Documents and Settings\profilename\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates)

2) Rename NormalEmail.dotm to NormalEmail.old

3) Make a copy of Normal.dotm and name it NormalEmail.dotm

When you restart Outlook and look in Quick Parts, you should see all your
Word AutoText entries there. Any new entries will have to be manually
entered in Word and Outlook separarely. And, if changing the Outlook
template has somehow messed up other settings you had (default fonts,
paragraph styles, etc.), you can always delete the newer NormalEmail.dotm
file and rename the old file back to NormalEmail.dotm.

I actually found your same answer on a
href="http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.outlook.general&t id=2006c6f1-6c53-4b4a-9fb8-afd0ffc76bde&cat=en-us-office-outlook&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1"another
post/a after I wrote this, and it is very helpful advice. Thanks!

Default Outlook 2007: AutoText, QuickParts - Which to use?

The problem I'm having is that QuickParts doesn't work the same as AutoText.
In Outlook 2003, the AutoText feature allowed me to just start typing text
and I could hit Enter to insert the text. However, in Outlook 2007, you have
to hit F3 to enter the QuickParts. Maybe I'm being nit-picky here, but it's
a lot easier for me to hit enter when typing to auto complete a word/phrase
than it is to go find the F3 key. Also, some one word phrases don't seem to
work at all in the Quickparts. Also, I noticed that there are some words
automatically setup like days of the week, etc. that I can start typing and
Outlook pops up a window that says "Press ENTER to insert". I want to add
more words/phrases to that option to "Press ENTER to insert." Is this
possible?

Thanks!
