thanks, the problem is that the archive file cannot be opened. there is a
long string of alphanumeric characters after outlook:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx it cannot read the files. i can actually open the files through an alternative method but cannot use them via outlook as a regular file kinda odd. -- pjp "DL" wrote: Only OL2003 and above is fully compatible with Vista Depends exactly what you mean / err msg regarding archive cannot be read "pjp" wrote in message ... i just got a new vaio with vista and used the so-called easy transfer option to migrate from an older one. still using outlook 2002 with all upgrades. here is the problem - my mail is all forwarded to outlook using POP3 and HTTP, so there are 2 accounts. But send and receive will not operate automatically, and using the send/receive button or F9 results in an "operation failed message". But hitting send/receive for individual accounts works. I have tried to define groups but no luck there either, nothing seems to happen. the other problem is that my archived pst files cannot be read on the new computer, in spite of following the easy transfer instructions to the letter. anyone have some suggestions on how to solve this? thanks -- pjp |

You open the Archive, or any outlook data file, by within OL, FileOpenData
File However if the data file was migrated from the old PC incorrectly it can become corrupt http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm "pjp" wrote in message ... thanks, the problem is that the archive file cannot be opened. there is a long string of alphanumeric characters after outlook:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx it cannot read the files. i can actually open the files through an alternative method but cannot use them via outlook as a regular file kinda odd. -- pjp "DL" wrote: Only OL2003 and above is fully compatible with Vista Depends exactly what you mean / err msg regarding archive cannot be read "pjp" wrote in message ... i just got a new vaio with vista and used the so-called easy transfer option to migrate from an older one. still using outlook 2002 with all upgrades. here is the problem - my mail is all forwarded to outlook using POP3 and HTTP, so there are 2 accounts. thanks - i thought that i migrated the data correctly since I: a) followed
MIGWIZ to the letter and b) other functions such as IE transferred properly. will have to try again. it appears that the migration problem is only in outlook. there is another annoying problem in that i have to keep re-entering my POP password because it refuses to stick half the time. and i know that i have followed the procedure correctly (repeatedly). strange. -- pjp "DL" wrote: You open the Archive, or any outlook data file, by within OL, FileOpenData File However if the data file was migrated from the old PC incorrectly it can become corrupt http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm "pjp" wrote in message ... thanks, the problem is that the archive file cannot be opened. there is a long string of alphanumeric characters after outlook:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx it cannot read the files. i can actually open the files through an alternative method but cannot use them via outlook as a regular file kinda odd. -- pjp "DL" wrote: Only OL2003 and above is fully compatible with Vista Depends exactly what you mean / err msg regarding archive cannot be read "pjp" wrote in message ... i just got a new vaio with vista and used the so-called easy transfer option to migrate from an older one. still using outlook 2002 with all upgrades. here is the problem - my mail is all forwarded to outlook using POP3 and HTTP, so there are 2 accounts. thanks for the advice - nice of Ballmer to ensure that the software's not
buggy again...sigh... -- pjp "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote: migrating correctly means not using the wizard - it tends to screw up outlook's profile.
