I have way too many emails in oe6. I need to transfer all my emails and use
Microsoft Outlook 2002 as my email client. I don't know how to do this. Every time it asks to compact messages, it puts copies of my emails in the recycle bin. I am also missing all my sent messages from the year 2006. Also should I update Microsoft Office 2002 to Outlook 2003? Help. |

You export your msgs OE to OL (I assume OL is setup on your PC)
You can then within OL Import your account settings and addresses Once OL is set up stop using OE, or delete the accounts, as if you open OE it will receive your mail OL2002 is out of support lifecycle, the OL2002 data file has a 2gb size limitation though problems can occur above 1.6gb OL2003 and above, using the new unicode format data file does not have this size limitation OL2007 is the latest version In OL use the Archive option, you can create mutiple Archives, ag Archive2005, Archive2006 etc and if you require have them all open within OL NB if you use OL2002 and then update to 2003 or 2007 there are some further hoops to go through "soreub" wrote in message ... Thank you DL. I just spoke to microsoft about upgrading directly to Outlook
2007. My major problem in OE6 is I have thousands of emails. (too many for that program, I assume) Whenever it compacts now, it copies my emails to the recycle bin and causes an enormous amount of problems in general on my computer(freezing, among others, not recognizing commands) So...........I was told to use the outlook program instead. Hence it's Office 2002. I have xp operating system and my cpu is only two years old. I also cannot create shortcuts to my desktop anymore from the web.............probably unrelated. I've even tried to let future emails go directly into Outlook 2002. I set Internet Options, Internet Programs (email) to Outlook. It ignores it and continues to send from oe6. As I don't really recall how to do all this import and export of dbx and pst files, I figured if I bought 2007 outlook or office, they could talk me through it. Again, I see outlook 2007 has its own issues. I'm not sure what else to do. You read my post?
In OE you export msgs to OL You *stop using/starting OE*, and/or *delete the mail accounts in OE*, otherwise if you open OE it will receive your mail Internet Options doesnt necessarily define which app will receive your mail, generally it defines which app will open if you want to send mail from a link or file "soreub" wrote in message ... Follow these instructions below step by step. Print it out along with the instructions from DL on his post to you on how to get your Outlook Express data into your Outlook (1) With Outlook Express right click on the left side where your folders are on Local Folders (2) Select New Folder and name it to something like Personal and click OK (3)Now Open your Inbox and highlight 1 of the emails. Then push the Ctrl+a key. (4) Now all the emails that you kept stored in the Inbox folder are highlighted. Right click on any email when highlighted and select Move to Folder (5)Select the Personal folder when it shows you the different folders and hit OK (6)Repeat the above steps 1,2,3,4.for the other Folders like Sent and Deleted and then Close Outlook Express (7) Search for your Store Folders where you dbx files reside. (8) In that folder find the pop3uidl.dbx file and DELETE it Making sure that Outlook Express is closed when you do (9) After deleting that file Open Outlook Express (10) Now Compact all folders in Outlook Express (11) Delete the recycle bin after when everything from below here is finished and successfully only (12) Set up your mail profile in Outlook same as you had it in Outlook Express. Copy it down to a paper so you will have it in front of you (13) Delete your mail profile from Outlook Express. Tools\Accounts\Mail\Remove (14) Right click in the IE icon on the Desktop and select Properties and in there select the small drop down arrow where it say's E-mail and select Outlook instead of Outlook Express and hit Apply on the bottom (15 Follow the advice of DL in his post to you on how to export\import your mail from Outlook Express to Outlook (16) Enjoy your Outlook -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. Outlook Express is fairly good aboiut handling a lot of messages. Outlook 2002 has limits on how mush it can handle as well. -- Brian Tillman |
