Default Outlook 2007 POP3 settings in Vista

Outlook 2007 keeps asking me for my password even though I've entered the
correct one over and over again. Is this a known issue in Vista cuz I never
had this problem with Outlook on XP or even Office 97? I even had my ISP
(Verizon) reset my password and used a new one and it still continues to ask
for a password. Can someone email me directly at
since I can still check my email online at the ISP's website. Thanks!!

is it 32 or 64 bit? I've seen a few reports on 64 bit systems but am not
aware of the resolution.

Its 32 bit. But Outlook has managed to fix itself. I opened Outlook this
morning and it connected to the ISP and downloaded my new email with no
problems. What happpened I don't know!! But I've had this issue when using
Outlook 2003 for the first time also. At that time I just kept hitting the
"OK" button when it asked me for my password and eventually it accepted it
and worked fine. Just another case of M$croDoze and their crappy software not
working as it should!! Can't wait till I get my Linux box up and running!! It
just shows how much Bill Gates really cares about the products his company
puts out. He's laughing all the way to the bank!!

Oooh, we are all so scared at losing someone to Linux - we are shaking in our boots.

Why do you think what you intend to run on YOUR computer has any bearing on what anyone here thinks? You can run whatever OS you want on YOUR computer - no skin off anyone's teeth here.

Geez, self-important twit!

Um, regardless of the original poster's thoughts on MS and Linux and others'
opinions of their opinion, some of us do wish to keep using Outlook 2007 and
Vista and are having the same problem as he had. Are there any suggestions
as to a possible solution?

See my other post in this thread for some of the details I have experienced
and solutions I have tried with no success. I have seen other cases in these
forums where others have the same problem, with the same combo of software,
so I know I am not unique and I know I don't consider myself self-important:
just a user who hopes he can make things work properly. I know there is a
solution waiting to be found and passed on by those that know more about
Outlook and Vista than I or most other users.

I've got the same problem. Outlook 2007 on Vista Home Premium (32 bit).
I've also seen others that have the problem on assorted newgroups. I've
tried the published KB290684 (I think that's the number) solution, amended
slightly so I could actually delete the key you are supposed to, but that
didn't work and the Protected Stroage key regenerated. Of note, I tried
creating a new user account and set up Outlook on that account and it worked,
so it's obviously something in my Vista profile/registry. I really don't
want to go through the hassle of creating a new Vista user and migrating
everything over to that.

I have tried all the standard answers of creating a new profile in Outlook,
making sure my user name and password were correct, etc. and they didn't work
either.

Also of note, I cannot even log onto an IMAP server or an Exchange 2003
server. In these cases, I keep getting repeated requests for user IDs and
passwords and going nowhere. At least with POP, when I enter the password,
it gets or sends my mail and I'm living with that.

Any help or ideas for me or the others that have this problem would be
greatly appreciated.
