Default Inbox display in Outlook 2003: how to get Arranged By view

Hi,

I have just been given a new computer (to me) with Outlook 2003 11.6568.6568
SP2 already installed. My frustration is at the way the Inbox is displayed. I
am seeing old-style individual column headings, rather than the new-style
Arranged By view. How can I get Outlook to display this view?

To give a little more detail: I have Outlook set to display the Messages
view, which I have reset to its default. I have selected to arrange by
Conversation. I now see all the different column headings, including the
message icon, priority, subject, date, etc. In particular, the Date column
shows the full date and timestamp for all messages, even those received today
or in the past week.

On the other hand, what I am used to OL 2003 doing, and what I would like it
to do, is to display minimal column headings, and a customised view that
shows times only for today's emails, day and time for this week's, and date
(but not time) for older emails.

How can I get Outlook to behave like this once more? I have Googled to
exhaustion, tweaked lots of settings, and found nothing. Any help much
appreciated!

Thanks

Michael

Default Inbox display in Outlook 2003: how to get Arranged By view

Right-click one of the column headers, select Arranged By, and make sure
"Show in Groups" is checked.

Default Inbox display in Outlook 2003: how to get Arranged By view

Thanks so much for the response. Alas this does not solve things. It is
checked, although note that it is greyed out.

In the Outlook 2003 interface I'm used to, and want to revert to, the
context menu when right-clicking column headers is very different. It does
not include Arranged By or any other items such as Field Chooser. Instead, it
just gives a list of different arrangement options, e.g. Conversation,
Sender, Date, etc.

Any other ideas?

In that case, either click the View menu and then select Current View and
choose from the options there, or enable the Advanced toolbar and use the
Views dropdown to choose the view.

Default Inbox display in Outlook 2003: how to get Arranged By view

Clicking the View menu gives "Arrange By", from which I can select "Current
View". The view I have selected is "Messages", and the arrangement is
"Conversation" (with "Show in Groups" greyed out, as previously reported).

What do I need to do in order to get the view I'm after?

Thanks

Michael

I'm really confused about what you're seeing, since when I right-click a
column header, I see Arranged By, and if I click that I get the list of views
such as "Date", "Conversation", "From", "To", etc. You're not seeing that?
If you are seeing it, and you click the Conversation view, you don't see
group headers with each conversation's title in them? Can you select
"Custom" from the list of views?
