Can microsoft office 2007 be installed without removing office 2003?

Yes, but only a single version of outlook can be installed.

Thank you very much. Just to clarify - this would mean that I would have
2003 and 2007 installed on the same computer and could use one or the other
depending on my needs (anything I do for work would have to be 2003).

However, outlook would be one or the other.

Yes, but unless you modify the shortcuts, prior to installing later version,
eg Word to Word03, they will be overwritten.
Also opening a file from explorer will result in latest version opening.
