I get a warning dialog stating "Cannot create an email message because the
data file to send and receive messages could not be found. To add a data file such as a personal folder file, double-click on the Mail icon in Control Panel." OK... I am setting up Outlook from scratch because I had to reformat my HD and re-install everything. I have the setup the email account properly, can send and receive a test message, I copied my backed up Outlook.pst file in the C:\Documents and Settings\Douglas\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook directory, have contacts in my contacts file, Tasks and notes work fine as well as Calendar, and can hit the Send and Receive button and receive emails. BUT, when I try to create a New Mail Message I get the warning above. I went to the CP and clicked on the Mail Icon, Data Files, Personal Folders, Open Folders... and low and behold, there is my Outlook.pst file. Humm, pesky little problem, but I know one of yawl’ has the answer out there! Thanks in Advance, Sixbells ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I have a user getting this message, however, the only thing that has changed
on the machine since it was working correctly was that we uninstalled Symantec and installed Mcafee. I've done the same thing on bunches of machines with no problems. Any idea what might have happened this time? Thanks Derek "Brian Tillman" wrote: Sixbells wrote: OK... I am setting up Outlook from scratch because I had to reformat my HD and re-install everything. McAfee decided to bite you. Uninstall McAfee, use their debris removal tool
to get rid of the crud the uninstaller leaves behind, then re-install using the custom install feature so you do NOT load any email scanning features/services/modules at all. See if the problem persists. You do not need email scanning. It is entirely redundant, it does nothing but create problems where none exist, and a PC is fully protected from email malware without it, provided the resident file system scanner is kept current. I might add that Norton, McAfee, and Trend are responsible for a MANY of the posts you see in this forum, and those for Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, and just about every other email client on the planet. Since you had Norton on the system, you might want to run their debris removal tool also, its uninstaller leaves a load of junk behind as well. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...107083&lc=1033 How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using theMcAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe) http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039 Download and run the Norton Removal Tool Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!" Thanks for the speedy response!
I'll give that a try (this user is in another city, so I can't get to it today) D. "Hal Hostetler [MVP-P/I]" wrote: McAfee decided to bite you.
