Default Outlook fails to open

When I first boot up at the beginning of the day everything works fine. Some
time later in the day Outlook won't open except to show the basic
background--no fetures are live, no folders are available. Is there an easy
fix to this problem?

What operating system and what version of Outlook?
If you reboot does Outlook then work ok?
It sounds like possibly a system issue with resources.

I am also having this problem. I have Windows XP and I just installed Office
2007. The first time I open Outlook it says I didn't shut it down properly
and has to open in the safe mode, so I open and then File and Exit, I open
again and everything works until I close it, then I can't reopen it unless I
shut down and restart.

Something is then holding Outlook open. Sync software and add-ins are
possible causes.
try disabling add-ins and see if Outlook closes properly.
You can use this app to check if Outlook is still resident:
