Since an IMAP account is an account that does a 2-way sync there is no need
to transfer the pst-files between those machines. Simply configure the accounts on both machines and select which folders you want to sync. Leave the pst-files from the IMAP accounts untouched. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Carol Mattick" wrote in message ... I have two computers. I installed a new email account using the IMAP server on one machine. That resulted in a data file with the file name Outlimap.gmail.com-00000007.pst. I copied all the .pst folders from that machine over to my laptop because I have serveral archive .pst folders that I want to be able to access. I was also concerned whether the current .pst folder would have all the emails that the current folder on the first machine had. When I tried to set up new email accounts using the IMAP server on the second machine, it created a data file with the file name - 00000000025.pst. When I tried to create an email account looking to the same 00000007.pst data file that the other machine looks to, it created a data file with the file name Outlimap.gmail.com - 00000007.pst-000000026.pst. Both the 0000000025.pst and the 000000026.pst files only have an inbox and seem to have all the emails in their inboxes. At the same time, a imap.gmail.com - folder appeared on its own and the underlying data file is the one with the 00000007.pst ending. This is where my labels show up. It also has a Sent Items folder and a deleted items and outbox folders. I was under the impression that IMAP files / accounts did not have deleted items folders, but rather struck through items you wanted to delete and left them in the inbox. How do I get the Inbox from the 25.pst or 26.pst files together with the other folders under the 7.pst file? Does this mean it is not necessary to create email accounts on the second machine? An IMAP folder will just appear. Or, is an email account necessary on the second machine, but it will never be looking to the same file as the email account on the first machine? -- Carol Mattick |

IN addition to what Roady said, I found I liked my gmail experience better when I changed the root folder of the IMAP account. On the Advanced tab of the gmail account properties, I put "[Gmail]" (without the quotes, of course, but with the brackets) in the "Root folder path" field and that made my gmail folders look like most other folders of the IMAP accounts I use. The root of the PST is called "Gmail" and the folders underneath it are "All Mail", "Drafts", "Inbox", "Junk E-mail" (added by Outlook), "Sent Mail", "Spam" (added by gmail), "Starred", and "Trash". -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

I think I have found the problem! The imap.gmail.com
data file is considered the default, but the button "Set as default" is available to choose when it usually is not when a file is already chosen as the default. All sent items are going to this account, but not inbox / incoming email. Conversely, the imap account data file is not considered the default but the "Set as default" button is grayed out. This is the account which only has an inbox and into which all new email is coming. somthing is not right here. Perhaps a problem with the registry keys? Brian, when you put [gmail] in the root folder, do you only put that and nothing else in the root folder? Or, how do you incorporate [gmail] into a root folder that represents an existing data file? -- Carol Mattick "Brian Tillman" wrote: Carol Mattick wrote: How do I get the Inbox from the 25.pst or 26.pst files together with the other folders under the 7.pst file? IMAP data files can never be the default delivery location. That's why the "Set as Default" is grayed out. Brian, when you put [gmail] in the root folder, do you only put that and nothing else in the root folder? Just that. Or, how do you incorporate [gmail] into a root folder that represents an existing data file? I didn't incorporate "[gmail]" into any folder. I told Outlook to use the mailbox path string "[gmail]" as the root of the IMAP folder list. This causes Outlook to present the folders gmail contains differently in the data file. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
