Hi,
I upgraded from windows mail in Vista to outlook 2007. Now it apears that not all messages have been imported. In my inbox everything later than august 23 is not imported, however, all messages in subfolders are up to the last email before the import. I tried it again, exactly the same. All messages apear twice now. (So it is not the max size of the store.) When I export the emails from Windows mail, I get all .eml files, and it looks like these are all mails. However, I could not find a way to import ..eml files in Outlook 2007. Thanks for any idea... |

If you have Outlook 2007 configured correctly, then in Windows Mail you should be able to click FileExportMessages and have everything transfer to Outlook directly with no intervening files. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Hi Brian,
You are right off course, I meant with upgrade not 'newer version', more 'higher platform'. WIndows mail is some vista version of outlook express IMHO. (However, I did upgrade from Office 2003 to Office 2007. In 2003 I did not use outlook as mail client, now I decided to move (Is that a better term ![]() to Outlook. But I understand I did it the wrong way around then. When I installed Outlook 2007, I imported the WIndows mail account, which looked to go almost smoothly. As I deleted all old mails, I will start windows mail again and export to outlook to see if that differs. Thanks so far. Hi Brian and/or others,
Unfortunately the tip does not work, and when I tried I remember I already tried it beofore, as when I export to exchange, it can not start the mapi service. I assume that that is available when you have exchange server configured, right? I use outlook standalone with hotmail and pop3 account. So my question is still the same: - Why is not all email imported from my windows mail after a certain date - is there another way to import indirectly, like first export from windows mail and then import. (The export works, I do hav a folder with all my messages in .eml format, but I can not import them in Outlook2007...) Thanks again, René "René" wrote: Hi Brian, You are right off course, I meant with upgrade not 'newer version', more 'higher platform'. WIndows mail is some vista version of outlook express IMHO. You don't need an Exchange account to be able to export from WIndows Mail to Outlook. Exporting from WIndows Mail is better than importing from Outlook. - is there another way to import indirectly, like first export from windows mail and then import. I don't know if Windows Mail will do that, though. I'm not at my Vista machine to check. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

I am having the exact same problem. I am moving from a Windows XP computer, where I used Outlook Express 6, and I am changing to a new Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit system. I did the Easy Transfer file and setting migration tool, and it copied my settings and documents, and emails over and seemed to work really well. Windows Mail runs MUCH SLOWER than OE6 did. (I have way too many messages in OE6, I should have switched to 'full' Outlook a long time ago) Windows Mail lists all of my messages, but if I click on "Create New Message" I only get a blank box for about 45 seconds to a minute, then the fields finally list (address, subject, message, etc...) and the computer is "busy" while the box is blank, if I click on anything, I only get 'Not Responding' and everything freezes until the box populates. I am trying to change to Outlook 2007, hoping it will perform better. Since this is only a stand alone personal usage computer, with no Exchange Server, I was not able to EXPORT from Windows Mail using that approach. I went to Outlook 2007 and chose to 'IMPORT from OE 4, 5, 6 or Windows Mail' and it seems to go through all the proper motions, it takes quite some time, and then it finishes with the SUCCESSFUL message, and a message count, but in Windows Mail my inbox had 4743 messages, and after the import, Outlook has 1001 or 1002. I have tried this several times, creating a new PST before each attempt, so as to not have duplicates. I have tried to (in WIndows Mail) create a new folder and move everything from my INBOX into the folder, then do the import, but then the new folder would only immport 1001 or 1002 messages.
I am really in a bind with this. Can anyone help? Or did you ever find a solution for your problem? |

Windows Mail will export to Outlook whether or not you have an Exchange account. You export msgs from Mail to Outlook, Outlook has to be configured.
(You select Outlook Exchange in the Mail export) As I understand it all Mail msgs have to be located in the root folder (Not in Folders) BTW If and when you get your msgs into Outlook, use the Archive options, you dont 'need' all msgs in your Inbox (or Folders you have created) The Archive is still available to view within Outlook Jimmy Burt wrote in message ...
