Default test settings works fine, so why "the operation failed" message?

Hi, there. I installed an IE upgrade that McAfee shoved down my system this
morning (2/14/08) and now Outlook 2002 doesn't seem to be able to talk to my
ISP. I checked and rechecked all my settings, even the advanced ones, which
seem to be the same as before. And when I click on test settings, everything
checks out, I even receive the auto-generated email (only to gmail, not to my
local inbox). Anybody have any ideas what's happening? Thanks much...

I am having the same problem, I don't know if it is because of McCafee or
not, it just started on 3/17/08 late in the day. My test also comes out that
everything is fine. However, when I click on send/recieve messages I get an
immediate "operation failed" message. Hope someone can help!

I am having the same problem with Outlook 2002, which just started recently,
and I do NOT have McCafee. I would think that Microsoft would address this
issue.
