Default Can Outlook access external drives

Can Outlook 2003 Posting files - mail, contacts, etc - be stored on external
drives for regular use - not just backup.

I have a user with a rather large posting file (tons of email) and she wants
to access her data on her standalone laptop - no VPN, etc

Thanks in advance.

They can be and they sort of work, but doing so is not supported and risky:

Personal folder files are unsupported over a LAN or over a WAN link

Is this a physically connected external drive, like a USB drive? If so,
sure. Use it just like any other hard drive. You can put your files on any
physically-connected drive (whether internal or external).
