I know this is a common issuse as there are other pages covering it, but none
offering a fix - Upgrading from Outllook Express 6 To Outlook 2003 has left the users with no typeahead action in the To: field of new messages. This is perhaps a more critical bug than it might at first seem, as some users have developed working-procedures which depend on typeahead. It seems the root of the problem is that Outlook stores the typeahead name-list elsewhere than the Contacts folder -whereas OE does use the addressbook- and that info isn't migrated. Does anyone know where the typeahead info is stored? |

First of all, you didn't do an upgrade but a migration. Outlook and Outlook
Express are 2 completely different applications, developed by different teams and can run side by side. Outlook doesn't have a type-ahead function. Instead, Outlook has an autosuggest feature which works based on a cache file (*.nk2) that you built automatically by sending mail to people. As an alternative (or addition) you can use Automatic Name Checking. When you type (parts of) an address in any of the address fields you can press CTRL+K (in some localized versions it's CTRL+M) to resolve the names or get prompted when multiple entries are found that apply. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Anteaus" wrote in message ... Thanks for reply. There appear to be some third-party apps that can convert
this .nk2 file into contacts, but what we need is the reverse. Anyway I'll ask the users if the Ctrl-K method is suitable. I can see this arthritic monster becoming the bane of my life. |

Open your Contacts folder and select all the entries in it with CTRl-A. Click ActionsNew Message to Contact to get a compose window with all your contacts in the To field. Press CTRL-K to resolve all the addresses. This will add them to the NK2 file. Close the compose window without sending the message. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

This worked fine, but when I get out of Outlook and come back in, the
autocomplete doesn't work. It's as if the NK2 file is lost when I close Outlook. -- Keith "Brian Tillman" wrote: Anteaus wrote: Thanks for reply. That's a sign that your mail profile is damaged and you need to start with a new one. Point the new mail profile at your existing PST. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
