Outlook has never, in four years of using versions of Outlook with the junk
e-mail filter, presented me with such a notice.

I get the same thing. Didn't happen before, but things have been
happening that never happened before since moving to Vista and the new
Office.

Well... we are now getting this message on all five of our computers - VISTA
and XP.

We have some of our computers set to download new messages every 30 minutes,
and some set to never download, so we can do it manually.

The ones that do not download automatically get this message when we open
Outlook, even though we are not downloading email... !

I have Windows XP and this just happened to me today too for the first time.

I don't know what version of Outlook you have, but this sounds like what has
happened to me for a few days (WinVista, Outlook 2007), only it is the
inbox--ding! You have mail--no msg. Sometime in the middle of the night, they
would show up (computer is on all the time). Checking the server directly,
there were messages there, Outlook just didn't retrieve them. Tried several
things, including disabling some of my add-ins, but finally went to
View/Current View/ and checked "Outlook data files." Then the messages all
showed up.
