Default Comcast 587 Port re-set prevents email send!

I am running Windows 2000 (SP4) and Outlook 2000 (SP1) and use Comcast as my
ISP. They just changed their email configiuration and are asking that our
SMTP port be reset to 587 rather than the default of 25 -- apparently in
answer to Spam and/or virus threats.

I have changed my default email settings and included the port 587 change
for the SMTP server. The POP3 server port (110) is NOT changed. I have always
received email fine (no port change on the POP3 server) but I cannot SEND
email anymore! I have looked at many resources and am finding NO answers.

Is it *possible* that I need to change some kind of port setting in my
network or Internet settings? [In looking at the control panel I see icons
for Internet Options, Network and Dial-up connections and Mail -- could this
587 port change need to be added/allowed within these control options?]

I appreciate ANY help --

What happens when you try? The send/receive dialog should show some errors.

I am running ... Outlook 2000 (SP1)

Once you've got things working again, you should really update office 2000
to Service Pack 3 level with additional updates.

Default Comcast 587 Port re-set prevents email send!

I am having the same problem, running Outlook 2003 SP3 and Windows XP Home
5.1 SP3. Comcast just made this switch on me yesterday. I got my Eudora up
and running, but I am having problems with Outlook. I made the recommended
changes in both of my accounts in Outlook, and clicked the "test settings"
button. I received the test emails immediately. However, the three messages
in my Outbox are not being sent from one of the accounts; the other is fine.
Send/receive proceeds normally but it ignores the messages in my Outbox. I
tried closing out of Outlook and going back in and creating a new message to
send--same thing--it goes into the holding pattern with the others) There is
no error message, but in the bottom right corner it says "Preparing to
send/receive..." and the little paper is going from one folder to the other.
It has been doing this for more than 20 minutes.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

What is your default send/receive interval? Try setting to to 10 minutes or
more.
