I have Outlook 2003 installed on an XP machine. My new laptop is running
Vista and has Office 2007 installed although Outlook has not been activated there yet. The Vista machine has access to disks on the XP machine via a wireless router. I would like to activate Outlook 2007 with its own .pst file(s) and access to the Outlook 2003 files. (I would use the laptop's Outlook 2007 .pst file(s) when traveling and the XP machine's Outlook 2003 files when at home.) Is this possible? Could Outlook 2003 and 2007 run at the same time while sharing the Outlook 2003 files? What pitfalls should I expect? |

A pst cannot be utilised by more than a single instance of outlook at the
same time There are methods of syncing two pst's, see www.slipstick.com for options And if you are using / able to use an imap account, then it wont be neccessary "Chuck" wrote in message ... OK, "A pst cannot be utilised by more than a single instance of outlook at the same time." That's not what I hoped for but it was not unexpected either. That means my wife and I can't be working with e-mail on the two machines in the same .pst. But that doesn't answer my first question and the subject query: "Can my new Outlook 2007 use the old Outlook 2003 .pst (when the old machine isn't looking, of course)? |

Outlook 2007 and 2003 utilize the same PST format, so just open the PST with FileOpenOutlook Data File. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Outlook 2007 and 2003 use the same pst format, so it would work but be aware
that network access of a pst is not supported or recommended. You should make frequent backups is you choose to access it over a network. The most damage happens when outlook loses network access to the pst - so you'll have better results with a wired network connection than you will with a wireless connection. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com.
