I am using Outlook 2003 Contacts as my email address book.
In Outlook 2003 Contacts, business contacts are filed as a full business
name; personal contacts are filed surname then christian name or initials.
When I open the email address book approx. 30% of entries are out of
alphabetical sequence, using the wrong name first.
Some names are duplicated using a fax number inplace of a email address.
What am I doing wrong?

Explain what you mean by "Business Contacts." Are you saying you're using
Business Contact Manager? If so, those questions should be posted to the BCM
group.
"Approximately 30%" tells us nothing. Which Contacts sort correctly and
which do not? What sort order did you set for your Outlook Address Book?
Fax numbers are not "duplicates." They are valid electronic addresses that
belong in the Outlook Address Book.

Knowwhere have I mentioned or made reference to "Business Contact Manager".
Business Contacts are a business name, such as Bill Smith Gardening, filed
as such in Outlook 2003 Contacts. Personal contacts are filed as Smith Bill
in Outlook 2003 Contacts. It is from these personal contacts that approx. 30%
show up out of alphabetical order in my Outlook 2003 email address book.
I have taken on board that Fax numbers are a valid address, tis a pitty it's
not mentioned somewhere prominent.
As for "what sort order did I for set Outlook Address Book". I do not know
what you are talking about.

I see. So then in reality there is no distinction between business contacts
and any other contact.
You just need to examine what setting you specified for sorting the Outlook
Address Book.
I suspect Outlook is doing exactly what you've told it to.
Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing directories or address
books Outlook Address Book Change.

I'm having a problem with the way names are being displayed in the contact
list. This is an example of the way I have properties recorded in the
address book.

Name: Andy Dixon
File as: Dixon, Andy
Email address: entered
Display as: Dixon, Andy (email address)

The name still displays as "Andy Dixon" in the contact list. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. When I click on new mail and then the "To"
button, the contact names are sorted by First names not Surnames, making it
difficult to easily find who I want. Even when I put the surname first the
program still sorts by first name. How can I force it to sort by surname?

booksNext. Select Outlook Address Book. Click Change. Set the display
order there.
