Default How do I stop 'Recurrence' from the default setting of 'Birthday'?

I would like to use one of the default date fields that show up when
importing from CSV as a date of initial contact with a new client. The
Birthday field or Anniversary field seem like the options. Both automatically
show up as a Recurring date, every year. I'd like to turn off the automatic
recurrence setting for either of the fields, so that I do not have to turn
off the Recurrence for each and every new contact I import through a CSV
file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
