Default How do I use periods in contact phone numbers

I need to change from the standard to periods in phone numbers, e.g
973.625.7721 instead of (973) 625-7721.

Thanks

Which brings up a questioin - why are we all of a sudden seeing phone
numbers written with periods instead of dashes? I've seen that in lots of
ads, correspondence, etc., and can't see the point. What was wrong with the
'old-fashioned' dashes?

Can't be done. Outlook's formatting of phone numbers is hard-coded. I
can't think of any dialers that would appreciate the periods anyway.

It's trendy. I picked up the habit while living in Europe. Maybe the period
distracts the eye less than the dash.
